A Christchurch home owner in need of a new water cylinder wants the Council to launch an immediate investigation to see if they are at fault.
There has been a massive hike in water cylinder replacements in recent months in Christchurch, with the finger being pointed at the level of chlorine in the city's water as the cause.
Kelly Sheppard noticed her water cylinder was leaking yesterday, leaving her in a precarious position.
"I will have to wait it out for a while before I can afford a replacement, and the power bill is likely to rise as it is leaking water."
Master Plumbers Chief Executive Greg Wallace says he would welcome an investigation into the water quality in Christchurch, and its effects on plumbing products.
Hot water cylinder breakdowns have multiple causes and Master Plumbers has no current evidence to support that chlorine is behind the reported increase in failures.
The Council is set to hold meetings with industry professionals today on the matter.
