Canterbury District Health Board's CEO is pushing ahead with meeting nurses and Worksafe.

This comes after reports of nurses being assaulted at Hillmorton Hospital, including a nurse being stabbed in the leg by a patient on Sunday.

CDHB CEO David Meates says he's meeting with Worksafe on Thursday, and will have a second meeting with mental health nurses at the end of the week.

He says yesterday's meeting was an 'open, honest conversation' with nurses shared a range of options for better safety, including increasing security onsite.

Meates has confirmed the nurse who was stabbed has been discharged from hospital and is requesting privacy.

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation is calling for urgent changes in safety, saying the Canterbury DHB needs to get serious in enforcing zero-tolerance to violence in the workplace.
