Should Lime be paying a levy to operate on Christchurch streets?
One Christchurch community board deputy Chairperson thinks so.
Jake McLellen is preparing a Notice of Motion to put before the Linwood-Central-Heathcote Community Board and if passed, the Christchurch City Council.

He said the e-scooter levy would be roughly one-dollar a day per scooter and be used to fix roads and footpaths.
"Lime is a big US corporation that is essentially paying $135 inclusive of GST to operate, and I don't think that's right."
McLellen said the e-scooters on average get used five times a day.
"That's quite a bit of money on a day to day basis that they're pulling in, and the operating expenses of operating battery powered scooters are fairly negligible."
He said he doesn't have a vendetta against the company - he just wants it to pay its fair share.
"I use them frequently, possibly even a little bit too fast. This isn't anti-Lime scooter, it's really about making sure there's enough money to pay for the roads that Lime scooters use."
He wants to make sure the burden on roads and footpaths isn't just on ratepayers.
