Boil water notice in place for Canterbury district

Some rural Canterbury residents are being told to boil their water.

The Ashburton District Council has issued a precautionary boil water notice for the Methven-Springfield supply.

It says the district's recent heavy rainfall has caused turbidity levels to rise.

Residents should boil their drinking, food preparation and hygiene purposed water - for at least one minute before consuming.

The scheme doesn't include the Methven township.

But Mount Somers remains on a precautionary boil water notice.
