Transport, housing and the environment are the three main focuses of Phil Goff's final proposal for the Auckland Council's 10-year budget.

The super-city Mayor has laid out the plan, setting out $26 billion of investment over the next decade.

Goff says the budget addresses issues which have previously been ignored.

"We've tackled problems that have been in the too hard basket for too long, the measures of this budget will benefit all of Auckland and make it a more exciting, inclusive place to live."

The proposal also includes $40 million for a climate change response fund, $120 million for sports and recreation facilities, and $20 million for the Auckland Art Gallery.

He's also defending the regional fuel tax, saying it's contributing $4.3 billion, which Goff says is significant.

"That's more than a third of the extra investment we're making in transport over the next decade, so you can see how important that was," he said.

He says the budget also provides the biggest increase in investment for protecting Auckland's environment.

"It's the biggest ever investment our city has made in our transport issues and that acknowledges the extraordinary growth in population of our city."

A final decision will be made on the Mayor's 10-year budget proposal at the end of June.
