Updated 2.15pm: Emergency services have raced to Devonport after a ferry crashed into the wharf.
It's believed 20 people have minor injuries.
Eugene was out on the water in his boat and saw the crash unfold.
"I heard the crash and I see the Devonport ferry nose into the wharf and it looked like it came in under speed.
"So somehow they've lost control of the boat."
Eugen de Bruyn was fishing off a charter boat.
He says he heard the crash... and saw the Devonport ferry nosed into the wharf.
He says it was a really big bang.
"It looked a fairly full vessel and we saw a lot of people on the top deck just after the impact."
Police are asking sightseers with footage of a ferry crash in Auckland this morning to get in touch.
Inspector Cornell Kluessien is asking for tourists who may have seen the accident to get in touch.
"We are looking for any footage, anyone who may have been filming at the time. Anyone with footage can pass it on to police."
Captain mortified
The captain of a ferry which crashed into an Auckland wharf is shaken up by the incident.
Fullers CEO Doug Hudson says the ferry's captain has around two years experience and is mortified by the accident.
"He's really shaken up and he's going back to Auckland where he will be offered counselling."
