In another break with royal tradition, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will not make their son's birth certificate public.

The certificate, which will have to list the place of birth for Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, will be submitted to a local registrar but not made available by Buckingham Palace

The move is in stark contrast to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who permitted the birth certificates of each of their three children to be released for the benefit of the historic record.

Harry and Meghan want to keep the location of their son's birth private for as long as possible,

The birth certificate is not the only change in tradition.

A declaration of Archie's birth on an easel on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace on Monday was signed personally by the Queen instead of doctors.

It has still not been confirmed where Meghan gave birth, although reports claim she was rushed to The Portland Hospital in London, dashing her hopes for a home birth at Frogmore Cottage.

The American-run hospital is known for its A-list patients, including Liz Hurley, Jools Oliver and the Duchess of York, with some VIP mums spending $37,000 a night having their babies.

The Portland offers five-star hotel service for new mums, with 36 private rooms as well as a creche.
