Political Report: May 24

It was a case of walking yourself into a corner and knowing you've got no where to go. You've taken the moral high ground and knowing the great unwashed would have to be suffering from a severe case of amnesia to forget it.

For once the dithering David Shearer was adamant, he was almost impressive as he called for Banksie's head over his dodgy Dotcom donations. But Banksie toughed it out and and State Homie John Key stood by him.

The cops are now checking the donations out which they're obliged by law to do once a complaint's laid with an electoral officer and that complaint was laid by Labour knowing what it would trigger.

So when Shame Jones was back in the dog box, a place he's occupied before when he used the taxpayers' credit card to watch blue movies, his boss was left with nowhere to go.

Claims had been made in the High Court that when he was Immigration Minister Jones signed off citizenship for a Chinese businessman even though his officials raised the red flag about his character. The red carpet was laid out with a private citizenship ceremony being held at Parliament by the wealthy businessman's Labour Party mates.

But the businessman has ended up facing immigration fraud charges and he'll hear his fate today.

Not surprisingly a lot of questions have been asked of Jones but he avoided answers until be finally gave the reason for opening the door to the businessman, he would have been executed if he returned to China and his organs would have been harvested.

Well that and others claims will now be tested by the public watchdog, the Auditor General, who's been called in by the woolly Shearer who said he stood by his decision not to stand Jones down while the allegations swirled around him. Everyone has the right to natural justice, he proclaimed, and should be given the opportunity to answer questions.

But just when Jones started answering them, Shearer called for the inquiry which doesn't say much about his view of the answers!
