Williams climbs three in world rankings

By: Matt Brown | Latest Tennis News | Tuesday May 15 2012 6:18

Serena Williams has risen three places to six in the latest WTA women's tennis rankings.

The former world number one is fresh from her triumph over current number one Victoria Azarenka at the Madrid Open.

New Zealand's Marina Erakovic has slipped two places to 41 following her first round exit in Madrid.

She's been drawn against 11th seed Sabine Lisicki in the first round of the Italian Open in Rome this week.

Erakovic and Monica Niculescu have lost their first round doubles match overnight.
