Jacko Gill focuses on junior world title

By: Andy Rowe | Other Sport News | Wednesday June 13 2012 16:03

As the Olympic hype starts to build, Kiwi shot putter Jacko Gill could be excused for feeling like he's missing out.

The 17-year-old decided to pull out of Olympic consideration early in order to focus on defending his junior world title.

Father Walter Gill says his son has absolutely no regrets about his decision.

Gill says his goal now is to win the junior world title for a second time and break the junior world record.

Walter Gill says his son is freakishly committed to achieving his goals.

"He prefers to train on his own, he'll occasionally throw with other people, but he never lifts with anybody. He's got a gym at home now. He's a loner in many parts of it."

Walter Gill says Jacko has gone from 105 kilograms at the start of the year, to 118 kilograms.
