By: Elliott Smith | Latest Football News | Thursday May 31 2012 16:52

The Wellington Phoenix have signed midfielder Alex Smith on a one year deal.

Smith played with the club last season on a number of short term deals, notching up 24 appearances.

It brings the tally of players they've signed for next season to 16.

Meanwhile, former Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata has been announced as Sydney FC's new boss, becoming the A-League club's seventh chief executive in as many years.
