The Wellington Phoenix have re-signed goalkeeper Mark Paston to a one year contract extension.
The 35-year-old says he's feeling good mentally and physically, and is keen for another season in the A-League.
Paston says he contemplated retirement, but after deciding to play on, wanted to be in Wellington rather than looking at options offshore.
"At a ploy, would have to be something very, very good to obviously shift my family so especially at this point in my career," he says.
He knows he'll need to be on top form to keep his starting spot, with Glen Moss returning to the club next season.
"(It's) up for grabs really, Mossy's obviously a top goalkeeper and obviously they want competition for that spot and it'll be a good scrap.
"Not just obviously him but you've obviously got Jonathan Gould as well. The three of us obviously will put the team in good stead I think, goalkeeping wise."
He says retirement was an option.
"Speaking to people that have retired, you're a long time retired so I think it's important not to jump the gun on that. I definitely did have a good, hard think about my options in that regard."
