All Whites struggle to attract fans

By: Nick Walker | Latest Football News | Monday September 10 2012 12:37

Tomorrow night's All Whites football World Cup qualifying encounter with the Solomon Islands at North Harbour Stadium is struggling to attract fans.

Only around 3000 tickets have been sold for the encounter, with New Zealand Football officials initially targeting 13,000.

It's understood a crowd of 18,000 will see the fixture break even.

Captain Ryan Nelsen is desperate for a vocal Kiwi crowd as it's easy to get blasé about crowds playing club football.

"When you come back and play for New Zealand you've got family and close friends and all the things that you're brought up with and, for some reason it kind of just hits home in your upbringing and everything, it just comes back."

The All Whites have just finished a training session at a school in Albany.
