Kearney confirms he's stepping down as Eels coach

By: Radio Sport staff | Latest Rugby League News | Friday July 20 2012 14:40

Stephen Kearney's confirmed his time as coach of the Parramatta Eels is coming to an end.

He's signalled his intention to step down less than two years into his three year contract.

Kearney says he expects to be in charge of the side tomorrow night against the Storm, but beyond that he doesn't know.

He says he'll lead the side at training today and tomorrow, before sitting down with club management.

Kearney says he'll now direct his full energies into coaching the Kiwis.

After narrowly avoiding the wooden spoon last season and struggling at the bottom of the ladder again this year, he says it's time to move on.

"I've been unable to achieve the success that I wanted for the Parramatta Eels and its wonderful supporters and fans. I think it's time to make a change."
