Whanganui River incident-free this morning

By: Annabel Reid | Upper North Island News | Tuesday July 17 2012 9:02

The rain has stopped and the Whanganui River has peaked without incident.

The region has been hit by heavy rain over the past 24 hours and there were fears of flooding downstream in the city.

Wanganui District Council emergency manager Max Benseman says the river peaked around 11pm last night and has receded this morning.

He says teams are out checking for any surface flooding and damage.
