Tramper in Palmerston North Hospital after falling into gorge

| Lower North Island News | Sunday July 29 2012 20:24

A woman is in Palmerston North Hospital tonight with injuries sustained while tramping in the Tararua Ranges.

The woman fell in the Mangahau River Valley in a steep-sided gorge with difficult access.

Other members of her party gave her first aid and carried her to an area where the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter was able to hover over the dense bush and lower a paramedic to treat the woman.

Once she was stabilised she was winched aboard and flown to hospital.
