Future of council building undecided

By: Jacob Brown | Latest Auckland News | Friday July 20 2012 7:45

What to do with a no longer needed civic building?

The Auckland Council's moving out after agreeing to buy the not-too-far away ASB Bank Centre in Albert St.

Council chief executive Doug McKay says the future of the building will be left for councillors to decide.

"I can see the building being refurbished and possibly repopulated with council staff. That will depend on how many, from where, what opportunities there are. Equally there could be a development opportunity that we sell."

Some describe the existing council building as one of the country's finest modernist buildings, others as an eyesore.
