Hopes potential airport tax income go to tourism

By: Jacob Brown | Latest Auckland News | Friday July 20 2012 9:14

The country's tourism officials are hoping potential taxes on visitors to Auckland will go towards tourism reinvestment.

Auckland Council's looking at airport departure taxes and visitor charges among other options which would help fund the city's transport projects.

Tourism Industry Association CEO Martin Snedden hopes the council will involve tourism representatives in their discussions.

"The council would probably want to reassure us that if they're going to tax visitors, then the money will be spent on visitor related infrastructure and promotion, so that's just the starting point."
