There's a sense of frustration from Rotorua MP Todd McClay, after Mana Party leader Hone Harawira described him as foolish and his anti-gang bill as racist. Mr Harawira believes Mr McClay's anti-gang bill which would make wearing gang insignia illegal in Government buildings unfairly picks on Maori. Todd McClay says the bill is about removing intimidating groups from the public eye, not racism. "These are people who are murderers, who are drug dealers, who are rapists. Now individually they may be nice people but when they put patch on and get together they are horrible, they're a blight upon our society. I think we should focus on that issue rather than Hone (Harawira) becoming personal." Mr McClay says there's a simple answer for gang members who think they're being targeted, and that's leave your patch at home. Photo: NZ Herald |
