Police cost of teapot tape saga unlikely to go public

By: Katie Bradford-Crozier | Latest Political News | Thursday May 10 2012 6:39

The cost of the police investigation into the teapot tape saga is unlikely to ever be made public.

Police have refused a Newstalk ZB Official Information Act request for details.

Detective Superintendent Rod Drew says Police don't maintain records of police time invested in enquiries so have no way of knowing how much the five-month investigation cost.

A further request for copies of any correspondence or phone calls between John Key's Office and police was rejected for privacy reasons.

Police have also refused to release the case file - effectively bringing the scandal that dominated the dying days of last year's election campaign to an end.
