The number of poker machines in New Zealand may be falling but the ones still operating are making more money. The Greens are now demanding an Auditor General's investigation into the Convention Centre for more pokies deal. Prime Minister John Key says there are now just 18,000 gaming machines in the country - down 7000 on the number in 2003. Back then, a total of $941 million was taken from the machines, an average take of $37,000. Last year the machines pulled in an average of $47,000 each. Photo: NZ Herald |
