It looks like the Queensland fruit fly outbreak in Auckland has been averted. Officials have signalled restrictions imposed in and around the suburb of Avondale could be lifted this weekend. A single fruit fly was found in the area earlier this month, sparking a major containment operation amidst fears our horticulture industry could be under threat. Primary Industries Minister David Carter is confident the crisis is over. "So the surveillance system worked as it should in finding, isolating, and killing the one Queensland fruit fly."
