There's a call for stronger mine safety regulations, after Solid Energy was ordered to shut down its coal extraction at its Huntly East Mine. The Department of Labour's new High Hazards Unit handed Solid Energy a prohibition notice, after detecting an accumulation of methane in a recently mined area of the underground mine. The Engineering Printing and Manufacturing Union says while the mines inspectorate's actions is welcome, another layer of protection is needed.
