Southern drivers passing tough restricted tests

By: Shani Annand-Baron | New Zealand News | Monday September 10 2012 11:24

You might want to head south to take your driving test.

It appears South Island drivers are doing better than those in the North Island when it comes to passing the tougher restricted licence tests.

The changes made in February mean a higher standard of driving is required for a pass.

Figures released by the New Zealand Transport Authority show Otago/Southland's doing the best with a pass rate of 64 percent for the month of August.

Canterbury/West Coast is second - with 55 percent.

That compares to the national average of just 46 percent.
