Mobile phone wallet system on trial

| New Zealand News | Monday April 30 2012 13:52

Paying for services through your mobile phone is getting closer to reality.

Telecom, Auckland Transport and Westpac are trying out what they call a mobile wallet system.

Telecom spokesman Edward Hide says the trial includes payment by phone to access public transport in Auckland and make purchases at a small selection of retailers.

"I can see a world where customers will be using their mobile phones to pay for anything from a pint of milk from the dairy through to supermarket shopping to and hopping on and off trains. We're really excited about where this might go."
