Challenging rescue in failing light

By: Joe Gilfillan | Latest Emergency News | Sunday April 22 2012 20:55

Failing light was the key factor in a challenging rescue in the Tararua Ranges earlier this evening.

The Life Flight Trust responded with a Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Mt Holdsworth where a 56-year-old man had a heart attack.

Dense bush and fading light prevented the helicopter landing.

A paramedic was winched down to the patient, then they were both winched back aboard.

The man is now being treated in Wellington Hospital.
