By: Lesley Deverall | Latest Emergency News | Tuesday July 17 2012 15:45

A rescue helicopter has been sent after a car was struck by a train while crossing tracks onto a private road near Otaki, north of Wellington.

Police say one person has been injured but the extent of those injuries is not known at this stage.

State Highway One is being closed seven kilometres south of Otaki so the helicopter can land.
