Two men charged with murder in McMurdo case

| Latest Crime News | Saturday August 18 2012 19:20

Police have made a major breakthrough in the violent killing of low-level drug dealer Lee McMurdo.

Two unemployed West Auckland men have been charged with the 32-year-old's murder.

The arrests of the men, aged 24 and 26, come 13 months after Lee McMurdo, the father of three children, was found dead by his 12-year-old daughter at his home in Helensville, northwest of Auckland.

The men will appear in North Shore District Court on Monday.

Police interviewed more than three thousand people as they investigated the killing, and investigation head Detective Inspector Greg Cramer says the arrests are a satisfying development for his team and the McMurdo family.

Lee McMurdo was a known drug user and low-level dealer, which police believe he was seduced into as a means of escape following the collapse of his trucking business.
