Woman in critical condition after assault

By: Annabel Reid | Latest Crime News | Sunday June 10 2012 14:32

A woman is in a critical condition after being seriously assaulted in Christchurch overnight.

Police were called to an address in Worcester Street, Linwood shortly after one o'clock this morning.

The 41-year-old occupant had suffered severe head injuries and is in a critical condition in the intensive care unit at Christchurch Hospital.

Detective Senior Sergeant Corrie Parnell says a man, who is known to the victim, has come forward and is assisting investigators with enquiries.

Detective Senior Sergeant Parnell says police are seeking information about a green Toyota Camry Sedan, registration number ST 8323.

He says police are keen to hear of any sightings of this vehicle during the past 24 hours.

A scene examination is under way at the Linwood address and is likely to continue for some days.
