More policing of our roads is needed, according to the Labour Party.
It comes as the holiday road toll hit 12 this morning with the death of a motorcyclist near Cromwell.
Police spokesperson Stuart Nash told Mathew Hooton the government has indicated it wants to cut road policing.
"This is just symptomatic of a lack of resourcing for the Police."
"You and I know, everyone knows that if you see a Police officer on the road during the holiday period the first thing you do is look down at your speedometer to make sure you're travelling at 100ks."
The holiday road toll period begins on December 23 and runs through until January 4.
In the same period last year a total of 12 people died.
