For his last time as National Party leader, former Prime Minister Bill English joined Jamie MacKay on The Country this afternoon to discuss his time in Parliament.Â
The two covered English's long career, from when he first entered Parliament in 1990 through to his first stint as National Party leader in 2001.
Despite Winston Peters comments over the last fortnight, English insists that he does not think there is any bad blood between them, praising Peters for his handling of a conflict between English and a NZ First MP when he was Health Minister.Â
English admitted that he could have handled his first stint as leader better, and says that the party learnt to be broader in its appeal.Â
He says that the party has had a "positive, energetic" leadership team since John Key took over in 2006.Â
He says that he has not accepted a new job yet but that the phone has started ringing.
