The Prime Minister is remaining tight-lipped over what tax cuts kiwis can expect on Budget Day.

The Budget will be delivered in May.

Bill English told Mike Hosking he recognises the average wage is creeping towards the top tax bracket but won't reveal much else.

"There's not going to be some big 'sugar shot' with tax cuts. We've got a range of tools. We want to be able to help and support middle income families."

Meanwhile, Mr English said the Maori King's latest endorsement is a problem for the Labour Party.

King Tuheitia has endorsed tribal leader Rahui Papa for the Maori Party to stand in the Hauraki-Waikato seat.

Mr English said it will cause a headache for the competition.

"It's a problem for the Labour Party, because they've taken the Maori vote for granted, and they're going to have to spend a lot of time to try and sure it up because it's getting competitive."

The Prime Minister also told Mike Hosking he doesn't think the voting age should be reduced to 16.

It comes after revived calls last week to change it.

But Mr English said increasing voter turnout is the priority.

"We've got more to do to get younger voters motivated. It's a privilege to be able to vote, and 18 to 25 turnout's pretty low."
