Every word of a heated phone call between US Donald Trump and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in January has been leaked.

The leaders had some common ground, both slamming the open door policy in Germany on refugees.

However, they locked horns on a deal signed by former US President Barack Obama to take 1250 refugees from Manus Island and Nauru.

US correspondent Richard Arnold told Mike Hosking Donald Trump said it would 'kill him'.

Arnold said Donald Trump said his call with Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier in the day was pleasant, but this one was ridiculous.
