A strong message from the Motion Picture Academy, as it ousts Harvey Weinstein.

The disgraced Hollywood producer has been booted out of the organisation which hosts the Oscars, after he was accused of sexual harassment and rape from more than a dozen women.

US correspondent, Richard Arnold told Mike Hosking the Academy's essentially saying it'll boot out similar predators.

"The academy statement from the board says his expulsion is not simply to separate but to, quote, send a message that the era of willful ignorance and shameful complicity in sexual predator behaviour is over."
