Family separations on the US-Mexico border are set to continue for some time to come.
Thousands of children have been separated from their parents, under Donald Trump's controversial crackdown on illegal migrants.
The practice has been widely condemned.
US correspondent Richard Arnold told Mike Hosking it's having a devastating impact on young children and played some audio taken from the border.
"What you are hearing is some very young children, aged about six, who are calling out again and again 'Mommy, Papa'."
Trump will discuss the issue with Republican lawmakers today.
He says he'll scale back the practice if lawmakers agree to immigration reform.
