A dramatic about-turn by Donald Trump on the issue of Russian interference in American politics.

The US president says he now accepts intel showing Russia meddled in the 2016 election.

But he's denied any collusion between Russia and his campaign and is blaming Barack Obama for failing to act when the interference took place.

Trump says his administration won't allow the meddling to continue.

"Unlike previous administrations, we will stop it, we will repel it, any efforts to interfere in our elections."
Trump ruled out any suggestion of Russian interference, after yesterday's summit with Vladimir Putin.

But 1 News US correspondent Rebecca Wright told Mike Hosking he came under intense pressure to change his tune.

"This is a very sudden, 180 degree turn, he's come home, he seen the criticism, this is an extraordinary about turn by the president."
