The weekend's death toll reached around 90, with President Bashar al-Assad's air force carrying out raids in rebel held east Aleppo, killing at least 11.
Otago University Professor William Harris told Mike Hosking the peace deal is questionable.
"This thing is full of holes - I mean we have an outlook for a seven day quiet period, we don't really know what's going to happen beyond that, we have no serious enforcement."
Professor Harris said it's likely Russia will stall activity until they see who comes out on top in the US election.
"If Trump wins, as you probably know, Trump has indicated, as far as we can tell, that the Russians will have a free hand in Syria."
