There are claims that a price hike on electronics could solve our e-waste problem.
An international report has found New Zealanders create 20 kilograms of e-waste per person, per year.
That comes from some of the 700,000 new computers, 1.8 million cellphones, and 300,000 TVs imported into the country each year.
Campaigner Laurence Zwimpfer told Mike Hosking that there needs to be payment for the eventual recycling, when the products are bought.
He said that it's about putting "a bit of extra cost", around $30, on each new device.
Then, "putting it into a fund [and] having that fund to manage the cost of recycling."
