There's more to the case of an Auckland couple said to have been denied a rental, based on their race.
The couple claim they were told they'd missed out on a flat in the Auckland suburb of Highland Park because they weren't Asian or Chinese.

However, the property manager told the Herald the couple were turned down because they had a pet, and there were other tenants with a 'more stable living situation'.
Property Investors' Association Vice President Peter Lewis told Mike Hosking it's still illegal discrimination if race was in any way part of the decision.
"As with most of these things there can be several factors involved and the race of the applicants may only be one factor but still it's not something that should count against them."
