Donald Trump has gone where others feared to tread.

The US President has signed through the Jerusalem Embassy Act, acknowledging the disputed city as the capital of Israel, and ordering the US embassy to be moved there.

Denver University's Nader Hashemi said the US has effectively surrendered its long-running role in Israel-Palestine peace talks.

He told Mike Hosking it's lost any credibility it had as a neutral party.

"US credibility and legitimacy to claim a position as an arbitrator or a so called honest broker of this conflict is now taken a severe hit."
