National's policy to raise the retirement age is likely to get the chop.

The party wants to gradually increase the super age to 67, and increase the time someone has to be in New Zealand to become eligible for super.

But those policies are likely to come up for negotiation during talks with New Zealand First this morning.

Retirement researcher Michael Littlewood told Larry Williams the policies weren't legislated, so they're easy to scrap.

"I suspect that National, when it made those announcements in March this year, had an eye on the election and on the negotiations that would follow."
