Las Vegas hospitals are packed with injured people amid a public plea for blood donations.

More than 500 people are injured.

Ambulance crews have been struggling to get the injured to hospital.

Danita Cohen from Las Vegas University Medical Center told Larry Williams some victims have been taking Uber rides to get to the emergency department.

"The first arrived fairly quickly but even hours after the event we were still receive patients both via ambulances and those who just got in their own cars, or took Uber to get here."

The shooting is the largest emergency Las Vegas hospitals have ever had to deal with.

Cohen said it's stretching the hospital to capacity.

"We had the woman who drove out of the Las Vegas strip, and at that point we had 17 patients in our trauma centre but 104 patients is definitely pushing the limits here, even on for a Level 1 trauma centre."
