The Greens are being urged to put aside old animosities and consider working with National.

Several commentators think they should talk with National, but 75 percent of Green Party members would have to vote for any coalition.

Entrepreneur and former Green Party member Lance Wiggs said the Green Party says its policy is set by its members.

He told Larry Williams now it's time for them to get as much of that policy as they can from either the blue party of the red and black parties.

"Everyone campaigned for something that was completely incompatible with the other parties. That era is over and it's time to start wheeling and dealing."

Wiggs said the first stage is to fight as hard as you can to get as many votes and seats as you can.

"The second stage is to fight as hard as you can, collaboratively with your former enemies and try to get the best coalition deal ...and they've just checked out at stage two it seems."
