The Queen's Baton is arriving in Auckland today ahead of the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April.
Gold medal-winning weightlifter Richie Patterson will carry the baton into the airport marae around 7.30 this morning.
New Zealand Olympic Committee chief executive Kereyn Smith told Mike Hosking the Games remain an incredibly important part of New Zealand culture.
"With sports like rugby sevens, indoor netball ...and then our traditional sports like cycling, swimming, athletics, triathlon etc."
