Labour unfazed by new poll

A new political poll showing a fall in Labour's support is water off a duck's back for the Government.

Labour is now marginally trailing National after falling five points to 43 percent support, a point behind National.

Acting Prime Minister Kelvin Davis told Mike Hosking they're still polling better than what they were on election night last year.

"We thought that the last poll that had us on 48 per cent was a bit strange, so we're not surprised that there's been a re-balancing. The Government as a whole is on 54 per cent, two per cent higher than the opposition."

The poll also shows National Party leader Simon Bridges on just 10 percent as preferred Prime Minister, compared with Jacinda Ardern's 37 percent.

Davis pointed out that Ardern's first poll when she took over the Labour leadership had her at 26 percent.

"I think Simon's ego would have told him he'd be up there as well and that hasn't happened. And normally, upon average there's a three per cent bounce when there's a change of leader and that hasn't happened for the National Party, so I think Simon will be a bit disappointed and embarrassed."
