One school principal has come up with a novel approach on how to deal with drugs in schools after some students were caught with drugs on school grounds.Â
Tararua College Principal Jon Ward posted an open letter to parents on Facebook telling parents to talk to their kids about drugs.
Mr Ward told Mike Hosking trying to shut the drug problem down isn't going to fix it, it will simply be a temporary fix.Â
He believes talking to kids about drugs is the best way to deal with it.
"I don't believe that simply excluding students and punishing them is necessarily going to achieve our goal, which is to stamp out drugs. We've had a lot of feedback saying that they respect the fact that we're trying to have an open discussion about it."
