An investigative journalist says the Defence Force has repeatedly misled the public over civilian casualties during a botched raid in Afghanistan in 2010.
Information released under the Official Information Act suggests the Defence Force knew a child was killed while the SAS was carrying out a raid in retaliation for the death of Kiwi soldier Tim O'Donnell.
Jon Stephenson co-authored the book Hit & Run, which claims 21 civilians, including a three-year-old girl, were killed during an SAS raid.
He told Mike Hosking the Defence Force needs to come clean.
"They repeatedly failed to tell the truth when they were asked later about civilian casualties."
