Excitement and nervousness are filling the streets of Lima, ahead of the Football World Cup qualifier.

This afternoon's match between New Zealand and Peru will send one team to the contest in Russia.

Football correspondent Jason Pine said it's an uneven match-up, but the South American side has a lot to lose.

"It has been an incredible experience to be here in Lima just to see how much this means to the Peruvian fans. We know they haven't been to a World Cup since 1982, and they are absolutely desperate to return."
