Ardern confident she can deliver change

Jacinda Ardern says her coalition government is not about the best political opportunity for Labour.

She maintains it's about the best opportunity to deliver change to New Zealand, and those New Zealanders who need it most.

The incoming Prime Minister told Mike Hosking she walked home this week after a long robust day of talks and saw two young men sleeping on the streets of Wellington.

"That is why we were at the table. That is what we campaigned about. I had a constant reminder. This has never been about anyone's political career it's been about change."

She also denies she's given away too much to Winston Peters.

Ardern said four Cabinet Ministers and a Parliamentary Undersecretary is not excessive.

"They bring nine seats to the table. Labour will hold 16 within Cabinet and up to five outside of Cabinet, so 21."

She said she won't be expanding Cabinet to accommodate New Zealand First.

She said she'll be looking to release more details as soon as she can including ministerial posts.

"We're very, very close. Finalising some final elements of the agreements, a bit of wordsmithing. I do want to take just the next 24 hours to finalise those."

The announcement will be some time next week.
