Jacinda Ardern says Plunket needs to be held to account for any Government funding it receives for specific duties.

Questions have been raised about where the majority of its donations and taxpayer funding is going - with accusations it's going to head office salaries rather than communities.

The Prime Minister told Mike Hosking Plunket is an NGO so it's up to them to decide where most of the money goes.

But she says the Government contracts them to provide 680-thousand visits.

"Essentially we are paying for nurses to go into homes so ultimately the decisions they make more broadly is one for them and for us to keep receiving the services we are paying for."
